Google Nexus Q Counters Apple TV, Roku

RSS
Google Nexus Q, announced today, allows users to stream content from Google Play and YouTube to other devices around a home. Is there a channel story here? Not really. But Nexus Q -- generating buzz at the Google I/O conference -- is still worth watching, especially as enterprise social media specialists seek to study consumer social media's evolution.

First, the details: The streaming media player resembles an orb -- that's a globe to you and me. According to a Google video posted on YouTube:
"Nexus Q streams your favorite entertainment directly from the cloud to your living room. Just use the Google Play and YouTube apps on your Android phone or tablet to surf an ocean of music, TV, movies and music, and Nexus Q will play it all on the biggest speakers and screen in the house. There are no downloads, no syncing, no running out of space. Just the stuff you love -- at home and out loud."

Again, no big reseller opportunity here. But for VARs that are focused on enterprise social media (say, Microsoft's buyout of Yammer?), perhaps Nexus Q will reveal how social media and multi-media will next evolve.

Meanwhile, stay tuned for more business-centric news from the Google I/O conference, where the search giant is expected to offer major updates on Android, Chrome OS, Google App Engine and more.
