The appointments, announced Jan. 16, add two leaders to the MapR team. First, Steve Jenkins has stepped into the position of VP for the company's European operations, which are based in London. Jenkins's resume includes more than 20 years of experience at major technology companies including Q1 Labs, Isilon Systems and F5 Networks.
In addition, MapR appointed Zeljko Dodlek, who has worked previously at Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), DataDirect Networks, Isilon Systems and NetApp, as sales director. According to the company, Dodlek will be based in Munich and will bear responsibility primarily for the DACH (Germany-Austria-Switzerland) region.
The addition of these executives to MapR follows the announcement late in 2012 of the company's expansion of operations into the European region. With a leadership team now in place, MapR is set to begin aggressively promoting its Big Data solutions, which are based on the open source platform Hadoop, to European customers. To that end, it will be displaying its software at the Hadoop Summit Europe, to be held in Amsterdam in March.
MapR's growth in Europe also comes on the heels of other developments in recent months that highlighted the company's influence in the Big Data market, including the introduction of significant new NoSQL functionality, a partnership with data analytics provider Hadapt and the availability of MapR's Hadoop distribution within Amazon's (NASDAQ: AZN) Elastic MapReduce platform.
