Happy Friday, and welcome to this week’s Distribution Watch, our weekly collective of all things IT distribution-related. This week we’ve got news from Tech Data (TECD) and D&H Distributing. It’s good to be back after a few-week hiatus, so if you’re ready for the new season, let’s get started.

Tech Data:Kudos to Tech Data for being named Distributor of the Year for 2012 by Brocade (BRCD) at the recent Brocade Americas and Federal Partner Summit in New Orleans.

"Tech Data is focused on delivering the best experience and support to our channel partners and this award reinforces our commitment to Brocade," said Ken Griffin, vice president, AIS Storage Solutions at Tech Data. "Tech Data and Brocade share a focus on adding value through customized education, training and marketing to meet the needs of solution providers in the channel. Through our partnership, Tech Data is committed to delivering value through the channel enablement of our Brocade partners."

Award winners were selected on the basis of revenues, business performance, technical certification, proven innovation and dedication and customer feedback. All nominated channel partners are members of the Brocade Alliance Partner Network (APN) Program.

D&H Distributing:The ITand consumer electronics distributor has kicked off its new “Get Authorized” program for resellers. According to the company, the “Get Authorized” tool reduces the time and labor of the vendor authorization process, which resellers must go through to buy products that are subject to MAP (minimum advertised pricing), UPP (unilateral pricing policy) and similar authorization restrictions.

Manufacturers have instituted MAP and UPP policies to keep product margins from dropping too dramatically due to aggressive pricing, according to D&H, which means VARs sometimes are subject to a “complex authorization process, which in effect documents that the VAR agrees to be compliant.”

With D&H’s new tool, however, eligible resellers need only click on the “Get Authorized Now!” button during an online product search or order, and the authorization process is approved instantly. VARs can view and print a list of the different items covered under each vendor authorization, plus other key policy details, via this method. D&H customers must sign up for the program to take advantage.

And that’s this week’s Distribution Watch. Tune in next week to see what the next episode has in store. Until then, stay safe.
