If it’s Friday it must be time for Distribution Watch, our weekly look-see at all the doings in the distribution space. This week features news from Novus LLC, Jenne and Tech Data (TECD), so settle in, grab a snack and let’s get started.

Novus: The specialty distributor has begun selling Phybridge's 8-port data switch, aimed at the small-business market. The PoLRE LPC (Power over Long Reach Ethernet) switch delivers Ethernet and PoE over a single pair of voice-grade copper wire with four times the reach of traditional Ethernet switches. The PoLRE switch combines single-pair Ethernet with power capabilities to create a reliable platform for IP telephony deployments.

According to Novus, the switch eliminates many of the LAN barriers to VoIP migration, allowing for quick, easy and risk-free migration to IP telephony. The plug-and-play switch allows end customers and VoIP providers to create a separate LAN, leveraging the existing voice infrastructure and ensuring a reliable user experience.

Jenne: The specialty communications and networking distributor exhibited at the 10th Annual Asterisk Open Source Conference and Expo (AstriCon) in Atlanta, held Oct. 8-10. AstriCon is a three-day conference and exhibition for Asterisk developers, integrators, resellers, and business users.

At the event, Jenne highlighted Aastra’s newest conference phone, the S850i; the Aastra 6700i Series IP telephones; the SIP-DECTTM Lite wireless product; and the 620d telephone, as well as the Digium D40, D50 and D70 telephones, designed exclusively for use with Asterisk and Switchvox.

Susan Elder, Jenne’s director of Marketing, presented a session at Astricon titled, “Using Social Media to Build Your Business,” Oct. 9. She discussed tips on formulating a social media strategy and leveraging Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to enhance a company’s reputation and brand, as well as generate leads.

Tech Data: The international IT distributor has planned its Fall TechSelect Partner Conference Nov. 6-9 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The event, expected to attract over 350 channel partners, will focus on innovation and provide the TechSelect community with training, tools, and networking opportunities to profitably grow their business.
