Database-as-a-service (DBaaS) vendor Tesora is certifying relational, NoSQL and distributed databases for compatibility with OpenStack cloud database storage.
As the OpenStack cloud storage ecosystem grows more and more diverse, how can enterprises ensure compatibility between their OpenStack distribution and their database of choice? Tesora hopes that providing a solution to that quandry can help win it customers through a new certification program.
The company says the initiative, called the Tesora OpenStack Trove Database Certification Program, is designed "to provide assurance that the most widely used databases can be deployed with Trove into the most popular OpenStack environments via the Tesora DBaaS Platform."
That means, of course, that the program will be useful only for users of Tesora's cloud database service. But it's a smart move at a time when the array of different storage options for OpenStack, which range from traditional relational databases to NoSQL-type storage to distributed databases designed specifically for Big Data workloads, can sow plenty of consternation for enterprises in need of reliable compatibility between the storage solutions they adopt and OpenStack.
At the launch of the program, Tesora is certifying its DBaaS platform for compability with the MongoDB, MySQL community edition, Percona Server, MariaDB, Redis and Cassandra database storage platforms. Testing and certification for Oracle (ORCL), SQL Server and PostgreSQL are currently in progress, the company said.
Tesora also promises to continue testing database platforms for OpenStack compatibility on an ongoing basis as they evolve, as well as to offer enterprise-grade support for the databases it certifies.
Tesora announced the initiative Aug. 19 to coincide with the first OpenStack Trove Day, an OpenStack event that the company hosted in Boston.
